Workshop: Climate Action in the construction sector

To achieve the Paris Agreement goals, we need to drastically reduce our buildings’ greenhouse gas emissions. Together with several members from the construction sector and other sectors, we are devising a “Climate Agenda for the Construction Sector”.

What?

Reducing our buildings’ greenhouse gas emissions could be a key lever for Belgium to achieve its Paris Agreement climate targets. That is why we are cooperating with members from the construction sector and other sectors to look into devising a “Climate Agenda for the Construction Sector”: one single common agenda, with roadmaps for cooperation across sectors.

Why participate?

In this workshop, you will discover how a cross-sector approach can help reduce our buildings’ greenhouse gas emissions and achieve our climate goals. Such an integral approach offers a range of opportunities to all kinds of organisations, allowing them to build healthy, carbon-neutral, easy-to-reach neighbourhoods and cities together.

How?

We explore several options, by looking into examples both from Belgium and abroad:

  • We take a look at the Dutch initiative of De Bouwagenda. Goal: gather several Belgian key actors to see how we can make our construction sector a front runner in the field of community engagement, technological innovation and sustainability.

  • In late 2017, we began looking into the Financing of Local Climate Plans (FLK/FLCP). On 14 June, we will provide you with the latest news on this initiative.
