On 15 January, we welcomed more than 260 members to our New Year's reception. The event, which took place in Brussels' brand-new Africa Museum, focused on sustainable international partnerships. We raised a toast to the successes of 2018, as well as to our daring ambitions and concrete programme for the upcoming year.
Heading for a sustainable society
Our network encompasses more than 2000 individuals from about 400 organisations, all committed to one and the same goal: a sustainable society.
The Shift is your guide in this complex sustainability landscape, ready to help you on your way. How do we put that mandate into practice this year? Through an extensive range of activities and unique projects:
Looking back on 2018: a fruitful year
2018 was an unforgettable year. We witnessed how our joint efforts to make society more sustainable and increase life quality for all made a real difference.
Highlights of the year include the signing of the SDG Charter by a host of CEOs, the launch of the first Green Deal for Wallonia and the founding of the Beyond Chocolate partnership, which aims to make Belgian chocolate even more delicious and entirely sustainable.
A wonderful precursor to the accomplishments awaiting us in the future!
Dare to dream of a better future: time to raise awareness
Our top priority? Tackling our society's sustainability challenges head-on! Today's youth has understood the message and is leading the way.
Charlotte Scheerens and Lucas Demuelenaere emphasised the sense of urgency they feel in the debate on climate change. "We are the last generation with the power to avert this crisis. That is a responsibility we need to take – and keep taking. Après nous, pas de déluge.”
Afterwards, our network's Director, David Leyssens, took to the stage and discussed the role young people play in the fight against climate change. To the question of how we can achieve our daring climate ambitions, he replied: "Courage and bravery!" David also emphasised the importance of partnerships and connecting stories for the shift to a sustainable society.
The evening ended with a relaxed networking moment. On the menu? One hundred percent sustainable dishes!
