As an affiliate to the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), CIFAL Flanders is one of the 18 International Training Centres devoted to advance sustainable development through capacity development of all actors in society. CIFAL Flanders is the leading regional authority in providing specialized training on sustainability with a strong focus on peace, human rights and sustainable development and the declarations, principles and guidelines of the United Nations. With our expertise on the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals, UN Habitat, the Ruggie framework, UN Global Compact and the COP21 Paris agreement, our mission is to develop capacities of both the public and private sector and civil society to overcome contemporary global challenges, with an emphasis on collaboration with local partners. Our methodology relies on an Action Learning approach, linking theory and practice and facilitating the transfer of knowledge and experience amongst our different target audiences and encouraging multi-stakeholder partnerships.

The Shift helps members to make use of the global framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals to map their societal ambitions.

4. Quality education

By developing capacities of different actors in society to deal with development challenges, we actively contribute to strengthening the means of implementation for sustainable development. This is realized through our specialized and sector-specific training, primarily on Agenda 2030. With our Action Learning methodology, we also induce the exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices across stakeholders, generating new approaches across sectors and thereby creating partnerships to achieve the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
