What?

Institutional investors can work towards their climate goals by making their investments climate-friendly. Through this knowledge network, we guide universities, pension funds, insurance institutions and other investors through the process of decarbonising their investment portfolios. This is done together with Forum Ethibel.

Why?

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, we will need to reduce our CO2 emissions by 40-70% by 2050 if we want to achieve the -2C° climate target of the Paris Agreement. More than 190 countries reached this Agreement in December 2015.

Investing in the fight against climate change

The key players of our financial system can make one of the most impactful contributions to the transition to a low-carbon economy. Continuing to invest in fossil fuels is not only irresponsible towards our climate: it is also unwise from an economic perspective (the risk of a ‘carbon bubble’).

How?

As an institutional investor, decarbonising your portfolio can be daunting. Through our learning network, we offer you the opportunity to share knowledge with other investors. At the same time, we also provide a confidential space for you to ask all your questions.

  • Which investments are best for the future?
  • How can we have a transparent debate about this with our stakeholders?

In a later phase, we may also invite fund managers to join the conversation. This allows suppliers to both share their own knowledge and listen to new signals from the investment market.

The preliminary phases of the learning network:

  1. Preparation: the study 'Impact of disinvestment by asset owners' as roadmap
  2. Setting up the learning network (kick-off in February 2018)
  3. From inspiration to implementation: sharing best practices and own experiences of the proposed roadmap
