8. Decent work and economic growth
The workplace culture in many large companies is unsustainable. The culture does not promote well-being or diversity - it acts as a barrier. Women are dropping out of corporate life after having a family, increasing numbers of people are on long-term leave related to burn-out, productivity per capita is declining and young people are turning their backs on traditional roles. We want to create better places to work by providing training that matters to people and that has a real, measurable impact on people and the business. We are in a global sleep crisis. It has been estimated that in developed countries it's costing 2% of GDP. Sleep is the foundation of mental and physical health and yet work-related stress is one of the main causes of sleep deprivation. We believe that companies have an interest and a duty to support their employees to get the sleep they need.
3. Good health
Sleep is the foundation of good health and our core mission is to reduce the number of people suffering from chronic sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation has now been linked to an increased risk of death from all causes of 13%. Sleep deprivation is linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer's, certain types of cancer, heart disease and type 2 Diabetes. Sleep is the most cost effective preventative measure and one of the best investments we can make in our mental and physical health and well-being. People in developed countries are sleeping 1-2 hours less than they were 20 years ago. Technology and screens, plus increased stress are partly responsible. We want to educate people and support them to make positive choices around sleep and to reclaim a rich source of health and energy. In addition, in order to half the number of road accidents (as in the SDGs), we need to raise awareness about the risks of driving tired.
