13. Climate action

By signing the COP21 engagement letter, we commit to take voluntary action to reduce environmental and carbon footprints. We implement this by setting targets to reduce our current own GHG emissions and/or energy consumption, while also collaborating in supply chains and at sectorial levels. We agree on the need for inspirational and meaningful global action and aligned messaging. We will act as ambassadors for climate action, focusing on solutions and economic opportunities. We will help raise public awareness. We will actively manage climate risks and incorporate them in decision making — not least to realize growth opportunities. We will take steps to implement effective strategies to strengthen not only our companies’ but also societal resilience.

12. Responsible consumption and production

Our strategy on corporate social responsibility consists of two core elements: sustainable sourcing of green coffee, and a responsible production process involving the efficient use of energy and raw materials. To this end, all of our own brand coffees are climate neutral. As far as production is concerned, we run on 100% renewable electricity and work with heat recovery roasters. In addition, we endeavor to reduce packaging materials and to make them sustainable where possible.

13. Climate action

As signatories of the COP21 engagement letter, we ensure all our own coffee brands are CO2 neutral and reduce carbon emissions (compensating CO2 with Gold Standard climate projects in the South). Besides that as part of our CO2 reduction plan, we have replaced one roaster in 2012, which is estimated to lead to a 10% decrease in energy consumption. In addition, all lights in the office building are replaced by LED-lightning.

8. Decent work and economic growth

By ensuring that at least 47% of all coffee products have either a Fairtrade label, or a Rainforest Alliance or an UTZ certification and that a small part of it has a bio certification, Beyers Koffie is helping to create decent work for all.

17. Partnerships for the goals
