4. Quality education
Total commits to young people by supporting education and their integration. This axis is one part of the four commitment pillars of the Total Foundation. Total is working hand in hand with other companies, sport associations and schools in order to offer original approaches: - To assist academic success and personal development, because self-confidence and code of conduct are all springboards for youth - To foster access to training - general and professional (more particularly in industry) - To support entrepreneurship through assistance in the creation of a company and social innovation
7. Affordable and clean energy
Total sets itself as a provider of solutions on the whole chain: from exploration and conventional hydrocarbon production, production of green electricity to logistics and marketing of products and services. Total’s fundamental purpose is to provide a better energy that is safer, more affordable, cleaner and accessible to as many people as possible. Gas has a major place in Total’s current offer: it accounts for nearly 50% of hydrocarbon production. It has several qualities: it is the cleanest fossil energy which releases two times less emissions than coal with abundant available resources. Gas is a natural complement to sustainable energies. As a major in petrochemicals, Total plays an important role in recycling. With this goal, Refining and Chemicals Research and Development Center in Feluy has developed a technical solution to recycled polystyrene trays (For example seafood trays). More recently, an investment has been announced within ToVaRec, one of the 6 recycling unity projects selected by the Government of Wallonia. This partnership is between the Wallon Region and two main actors: Total and Vanheede, a Belgian company active in waste management.
12. Responsible consumption and production
Total fully integrates climate in its strategy by using as reference the 2°C scenario provided by the International Energy Agency. In this context, there is a place for each form of energy. What is at stake for Total is to meet the growing world’s needs in terms of energy consumption while offering products whose carbon footprint will be decreasing. From this statement, five levers have been identified: 1) improve energy efficiency, starting from Total’s equipment, 2) develop activities on the whole gas chain, 3) reinforce low-carbon electricity, 4) promote sustainable biofuels and 5) invest in carbon sinks and reforestation programs. Total is committed to contribute to 17 SDG (Sustainable Development Goals). The Group has targeted those with a more direct impact with goals classified according to several relevant indicators. Regarding water, the Group set up ambitious objectives in terms of wastewater quality, whether it is offshore or onshore. Within its industrial installations, Total has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 25% since 2010, with aims to target a further reduction of 15% by 2025. Carbon footprint of products commercialized will also be reduced. Carbon footprint of products commercialized will also be reduced.
